The Beauty of Yoga is its simplicity and very tangible approach to living more connected, aware and grounded in life. It is elemental in that it approaches life via our breath, mind and body. I was first exposed to IyengarYoga in 1990 in massage school and have diligently gone to weekly classes with the late Mary Dunn, Senior Iyengar yoga teacher and founder of the ‘Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York.’ Of recent I have begun studying and am currently enrolled in a two year Iyengarteacher training program with Patricia Walden. In the least the program is demanding, yet very rewarding.
Under the guidance of Mary Dunn, I began (May 2007) an on going Yoga class now in its 4th year at The Redding Meditation Center, 9 Picketts Ridge, Redding CT 06896. I also substitute teach at Blackbird Yoga in Georgetown
We meet every Tuesday morning at 9:30am-10:45am. This class is a beginner level class. Standing and other introductory poses are practiced. This does not mean easy, but accommodating with the use of props so as to assume the most benefit from each position (asana). The Iyengar method’s emphasis is placed on precision and alignment in all asana’s. This is important because only when we are in alignment or engaging our body mind and breath correctly can all aspects of our self follow suit and evolve.
Yoga develops:
- Strength
- Endurance
- Optimal body alignment
- Relaxation
- Awareness
- Inward reflection
- Ease of movement
- Vitality
- Improved circulation
- Coordination
- Balance
- contentment
