The Beauty of Yoga is its simplicity and very tangible approach to living more connected, aware and grounded in life. It is elemental in that it approaches life via our breath, mind and body. I was first exposed to Iyengar Yoga(Gayna Uransky) in 1990 in massage school and have diligently gone to weekly classes with the late Mary Dunn, Senior Iyengar yoga teacher and founder of the ‘Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York.’ In 2012 I completed a two year Iyengar teacher training program with Patricia Walden, Peentz Dubble and Leslie Freyberg. I currently attend Naghmah Ahi class at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in New York https://iyengarnyc.org/
Under the guidance of Mary Dunn, I began (May 2007) an on going Yoga class now in its 12th year at The Redding Meditation Center, 9 Picketts Ridge, Redding CT 06896.
We meet every Tuesday morning at 9:30am-10:45am. This class is a beginner level class. Standing and other introductory poses are practiced. This does not mean easy, but accommodating with the use of props so as to assume the most benefit from each position (asana) for our skill set. The Iyengar method’s emphasis is placed on precision and alignment in all asana’s. This is important because only when we are in alignment or engaging our body, mind and breath correctly can all aspects of our self follow suit and evolve.
The last Tuesday of each month is usually restorative. In this class the effort is reflective, relaxing the body(surrendering), calming the mind and nervous systems. Stillness, Breathing(pranayama) and use of props allow us to hold positions(asana) longer.
